After high school I spent a few years getting a degree at the University of Iowa (almost enough that I should be called Dr. Jay Wells) and working for a group of radio stations in the Iowa City/Cedar Rapids area. It was in 2001 that I had the urge to see the world - so I moved a whole 4 hours east to Chicagoland to host a morning radio program out in the suburbs. It didn't take long, though, for it to grow tiresome trying to pick from SO MANY things to do (plus, having convenient shopping was really a drag) and I ended up back in Stuart working for the very same station where my career started in high school. After several years in radio, though, I had begun to itch for something different which led to: • Sales (I'm quite possibly the world's WORST salesperson) • Television (where I learned that I have a face for radio) • Technical Writing (I specialized in writing for the technology field...and though I actually did enjoy it, it really was just as boring as it sounds). I began working part-time for the Des Moines Radio Group while I was a contract technical writer for a large banking institution here in town (I know...that's so cryptic I'm sure you'll NEVER figure out what company that was) and when the opportunity arose to come back to the career I'd always loved the most...I jumped at it! In my free time I enjoy cooking, golfing and – most of all – spending time with my family. My wife, Mary, and I have four kids between us (Hannah, 10; Corinne, 7; Mia, 4; and Riley, 2) that keep us PLENTY busy! Other than that...well, I guess when I'm not with them I'm here at the station... But I have the greatest problem in the world: I love going to work every morning just as much as I love going home to them every night! If there's ever anything I can help out with (song titles, concert information, hard Trivial Pursuit questions), please don't hesitate to send me an email or call me in the studio! |
